THE EFFECT OF AGMATINE ON SPIKE-AND-WAVE DISCHARGES IN A GENETIC MODEL OF ABSENCE EPILEPSY

چکیده

Objective: Studies on the actions of exogenous agmatine in experimental models have shown its anti-convulsant effects. However, there are no findings regarding influence absence epilepsy. Therefore, we investigated effects occurrence spike-and-wave discharges (SWDs) Wistar Albino Glaxo Rijswijk rats (WAG/Rij) model genetic Material and Method: Three different doses (20, 40 or 80 mg/ kg) saline were administered intraperitoneally to adult WAG/Rij rats, electroencephalography (EEG) was recorded for 2.5 hours. The number mean cumulative durations SWDs measured. SWD frequency characteristics quantified by means average power-spectra first 2 s segments complexes before after effective dose agmatine. Results: Agmatine, mg/kg systemically, temporarily increased duration compared with injected rats. This effect agmatine, however, not associated any change complexes. There neither incidence nor when lower (20 mg/kg). Conclusion: Higher slightly increase which may suggest possible aggravating activity epilepsy patients through adrenergic, serotonergic AMPA receptors.

Influence of transcranial magnetic stimulation on spike-wave discharges in a genetic model of absence epilepsy.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) impulses, (0.5 Hz, 3 impulses) were presented at threshold intensity to male WAG/Rij rats. One group received stimuli, which involved motor responses of hindlimbs, rats of the second group received sham stimulation. Electrocorticograms (ECoG) were recorded before and up to 2 hr from the moment of transcranial magnetic stimulation. It was established that ...

Unilateral and Bilateral Cortical Resection: Effects on Spike-Wave Discharges in a Genetic Absence Epilepsy Model

RESEARCH QUESTION Recent discoveries have challenged the traditional view that the thalamus is the primary source driving spike-and-wave discharges (SWDs). At odds, SWDs in genetic absence models have a cortical focal origin in the deep layers of the perioral region of the somatosensory cortex. The present study examines the effect of unilateral and bilateral surgical resection of the assumed f...

On the activity of the corticostriatal networks during spike-and-wave discharges in a genetic model of absence epilepsy.

Absence seizures are characterized by impairment of consciousness associated with widespread bilaterally synchronous spike-and-wave discharges (SWDs) in the electroencephalogram (EEG), which reflect highly synchronized oscillations in thalamocortical networks. Although recent pharmacological studies suggest that the basal ganglia could provide a remote control system for absence seizures, the m...
